Aug_journal_001 surreal. but fact.

my august journal entry is all about bobby- Aug_journal_003 pretty raw. simple. real. he is who he is! very common factors in both my boys. i love the fact that my boys are not high maintenance (well, for the most part -!), and there's no drama designing around them! the design in this page pretty much sums up bobby in his life right now. living lifes realities (it's not always easy!) ! i love this shot i took of him in his (very) holey jeans; holding his horse's bridle. definately in his element here. i used a piece of book paper, and with a sharpie, lined out all the words i didn't want to use, leaving the descriptive ones that i wanted to keep. the photo on the rt is a tape transfer and cut out book text added along the spiral. masking tape and a tag i got out of a plant that i bought this spring that irronically identifies his birth year -85. Aug_journal_005he's getting ready to move out over the weekend- which will be a Aug_journal_004_3   new adjustment for me! eth's all about it!! -he just wants the extra room! feel the love -lol-

wow, i'm caught up on my journal- amazing. love this on-going real-life art in process...   actually i've been playing a little here/there. working on altered christmas tags for a couple of upcoming local events that i need to get links to and post! -note to self-

cheers to a good rest of your week/labor day weekend! last official weekend of the summer      GASP.   as for me, i will be working on random projects around the house. the whole summer has been about updating and repairing it seems! keep/or sell...    <a townhouse with no maintenance is very appealing about now- i need to think about that a little harder>undecided.

revised

July_journal0 i mentioned in my last post that i wasn't completely satisfied with this layout. now i'm convinced that it's because the photos were too repetitious! i downsized one copy of eth's team ball pic taken in florida last month and tape transferred it over the top of an existing pic. the dimension of the photos is visible IRL. with a sharpie i drew a circle around eth in the pic. July_journal07_015 this pic like looking at my brother 15 years ago! wow! wow! you can't see eth's number because of his pose, so i cut out a number 8. also something he has in common with my bro, they share the same ball number.  i enlarged another copy of the pic, and transferred the image of eth with packing tape also. along the sides i made masking tape tabs and then added more book text. pure grunge

and it's all about ethan. of course! July_journal07_005 july/eth's birthday month entry is done. actually i'm thinking that this is missing something -to pull the page together. it's not completely working for me, but it's close. i'm loving the tape transfer i did using ethan's pic. each transfer has a different 'end result' appearance. they also overlap some left-over paper previously adhered to the envelope. cool dimensional effect. i also stuck a ticket from the PC fair mud run. it's almost a week-long local fair that eth goes to every night. it's also in july. July_journal07_006i used some pieces of this 'holey' sticky tape (i have no idea where i got it or what it's supposed to be used for) that i used to transfer rub-on numbers onto. *i challenged myself/starting with this month's journal entry, i'm using something from my supply of 'stuff' that's been sitting in it's same place forever! i've got to start moving this stuff!! so these two metal pieces (again i have no idea what they are) that have holes at one end are attached to the envelope flap with large brads. July_journal07_003 on the inside of the envelope i sized and adhered a piece of book paper, picked out and added some words, and used white-out to hide the rest. pretty cool end result for this. to add to the grunge i used masking tape randomly. this page fits eth. it's just what it is. like him. he's got such a cool soul. he's who he is and doesn't act otherwise. i love that about him. it's amazing how things in your life change from month to month! i've had more time to work on my journal and other random small projects. august is in the works, bobby's birthday month! so it'll be all about him. of course!

a little play

happy sunday morning! it's been so hot in KC the past couple of weeks, but friday nt. went to westport with friends. i took this pic of a guy playing his electric guitar on the street. for money of course. but he was cool.    when he saw that i was taking his pic from across the street, he turned up the gig a bit and started playing with his mouth i('m just glad i was across the street and took this in as a distant visual*wink).Ssl10693   i had my small digital that i keep with me, and i later discovered the battery was about maxed, so these pics aren't very clear

this is my bestfriend from High School, 2_cropped and rhonda and myself with lisa, another girlfriend from HS. 1

i've been working on random small projects this past week. and it feels so good to get back into my journal work more consistantly. *story/remember the birthday photo journal that i made for a girlfriend's daughter this spring? well, her little sister left a message on my voice mail this past week and it simply said 'stephanie, this is alyssa...   *big pause* please call me when you can. i haven't gotten my birthday book yet! so i dove into this little photo journal immediately! i love how these kids love this -stuff-!  i didn't have many photos to work with on hers, so i used the one that i had, and made the book more of a story book than an artsy journal. wanted the end result to be more simplistic. she's 8. Alyssa_001 i used an pre-made hardback book (K&Co.), then i made holes along the edge; half on the front, the other half on the back, so when this is opened, the top half of the beading is to the left, the bottom half to the rt. i used this silk flower as a mask and spray painted it. then i attached it with the small button pin- junking that up with more acrylic and a glitter sticker number. the sm. metal flowers are attached with adhesive and distressed. i used making memories metal flowers and the center are mm alpha/number pieces. Alyssa_002 the silk flower and button are actually from hks packaging!

(whoever first introduced using book text in journal/artwork was a HUGE inspiration to me! lol-  i've overkilled Alyssa_006 that concept over-over. gotta love it) this> is the back of the book. it's bright and fresh with an edge of course*wink.

stay cool out there! slm
