the end result/ut photo journal

done. this is all good *wink Utah_journal_front_visual

embellishing this, i tried to stay true to the desert elements with my colors and textures. raw.  An afterthought…      i wish i would have had some of the desert floor. i could have used that in texture with acrylics as well as a memorabilia element in a small glass bottle –! Utah_journal_03

i  used a synergy of products; 7gypsies stamp/naked journal, making memories alpha stickers (distressed, of course*wink), hks number stamp, map tape, ranger/tim holtz alcohol inks. and of course acrylics, walnut ink.Utah_journal01

Utah_journal_02a couple of cool new discoveries…     on the first inside photo (not pictured) i wrote out together always’ with my dip pen and ink –didn’t like how it looked, so i wiped the ink off with the thought that i would just cover the smeared ink area with some distressed technique- WELL… i found that it left the impression anyway..   in a negative way!

Utah_journal_01 the ink actually –took away from- the finish of the photo and it looks like i used a tool to write into the photo; leaving a ‘negative’ appearance. Loving that..    i'll show an example of this eventually.. on the photo collage page i  randomly put acrylic across the photos-then wiped the paint off, which in return took away from the photo finish. the photos look like they have been melted with heat, and with the acrylic in the mix, it’s a very cool effect in real life. (photos never show enough depth) -! of course, my fav part of this journal is the appearance it gives from the outside. The edges of the chipboard pages are very raw and stained with the walnut ink, and with the pics, etcetera on the inside..  making the outside look ‘gap-y’/or for better words ‘random’.  *don’t know how else to describe this, but you artists’ understand my thought! lol.

it’s all around a fun photo journal; interactive with the 2-pg spread that i was able to stuff 12 photos into. (i attached 2 photos together; back-back, and in a staggered fashion i attached one side to the book with wide masking tape; stained with walnut ink. the tape allows the photos to flip with flex).

ALSO the debut’ edition of Somerset Studio's ARTful Blogging is out (i think- if not pr-order it…  you’ll have it soon!)-   i received my comp copy last week and the book is fabulous! the players/blogs featured in this issue are amazing. the layout of the images;photo and art, to the ‘partial post’ is really good. the synergy rocks to say the least!! get it. you’ll love it.  i gave a big plug to my girl who designed my blog header/kim, but it wasn’t in the final piece, so i wanted to shout out TY KIM -and your work wow’s me!! she’s amazing to volunteer to design this for ME!! sidebar// i'm very happy with the visuals they used of my blog in the article. it's good stuff

-  now i have some serious catching up to do on my on-going monthly life journal. [what else is new, right -?] my intention is to work on my june (i know... it's almost august -GASP) entry, and i'll post when done. have a fab weekend! slm

in process

this utah photo journal. Utah_003i went out of my norm on this one! i never jump into a journal without pics/etcetera to build around. this one i did. this is just the starting pt. again i wanted this to be raw and unique because of the pics going in. used a 7gypsies naked journal and stained the pages with walnut ink. then cut strips of copper metal sheets to wrap around and hold these sticks in place that i attached onto the ends of the first and last pages. the copper strips are held in place with star brads. *stars are a timing element; 04th/july. then i soldered around the edges of pages, and stained the soldered areas with walnut ink and granuals. i got the stick idea from artist lisa cook. she was one of the players in a recent idea book Adventureous Scrapbooker that i contributed to. i was WOWed by her nostalgic friendship book.

so just a few raw visuals. this journal is fresh and i've only just started on it. i'll post more as i get pics and other elements put in place. Utah_008_2 Utah_011

shocker

not only 2 posts in a week- but consecutive days!! i know, i'm as shocked as you are.      gasp.

Inst_j_visuals_001rec my new anthropologie catalog in the mail today, and was completely inspired. i've always been drawn to the turquoise/red combo, but something about the distressed color in the truck -with rust areas- did it for me. go figure, i can't control it, i just have to go with it! here's a couple visuals of my instructional 'project' for the dd event in april. Inst_j_visuals_002 i can't show much, but wanted to give a visual of some. *hint/contrast with dye and alcohol ink, which i love the effect i got on the metal

i have been battling with this project for weeks, and this simplistic element came at me and got me going. weird how that happens, -huh?  it works. that's the fab thing about inspiration, it just happens and is unpredictable.

the EVENT logo/-check out all the details on dd's site- so great

obviously

i have not gotten any journal work done lately-     no art visuals in this post. BUT, i will share some of my fav summer pics. taken so far. there's something to be said about my girlfriends who are even more photo OCD than i am-  yea i know..   surreal. but true.

a little peep into my world-  and some of the fab people in it **wink

this is bobby's horse> his roping horse and his name is none other than Trigger. oh my heck-  the good thing is he was already named when bobby bought him. he's a 6-yr old trained roping horse. and yes, now bobby is into roping. lol. last year he placed 4th in the nation in arm wrestling, now he's a cowboy [lol]...i guess it really stuck with him when i told the boys to always follow their dreams and to do it big! he's doing everything he wants- it's very cool.Sox07_003bw Sox07_006

yep- we eat really well. we've been doing a lot of bar-b-ques with friends just about every weekend. it's all good times

Grill00 ok..   so i wasn't completely straight up when i said i haven't gotten any artwork done lately... I JUST CAN'T SHOW YOU. i've been working on my instructional sample for dd's (artist link) gig/event INSPIRED/april 10-12/2008. i know she's updating the site now, so check it often! i will tell you this...    the class is completely my style. journal. layering. distressing.                 ACK-can't tell you anymore. but it's pretty dang cool. the concept is cool and you can do a lot with it. simplistic to extreme -like me! it also fit's in with my on-going life journal i've been showing you here. ok. STOPPING now. no more..  i'll just see you there!! lol.  anyway, the lineup of artists at this event is amazing, and i'm stoked about being there. by choice i haven't been doing any traveling inst. for about 2 years now, and i'm ready to do this. excited.

hopefully i'll have some new journal work to post next week- we're heading to the lake this weekend, so if anything, i'll have more pics. to post.    lol     - hey, i truely feel naked when i put up a new post and i don't have any artwork in it. crazy but true. lol

happy 4th/slm
