cross inspiration

i mentioned in a recent post that i was inspired by a fellow artist and this piece was the springboard to the continuation of my may journal entry. i love it. when i saw her altered page, i immediately wanted to take her thought to another extreme-     May_pg2_08_2 simplistic though; i took chipboard scraps and cut windows randomly with my xacto, then attached them to the binding with jump rings so they could flip to either side. more dimension. the windows expose book text words -that were placed after the flips were in place themselves to match up to the windows. this visual>is the front view of the flips (what the heck else do i call these -?) I handwrote song lyrics with my dip pen and ink onto the flips/both sides. the other visual is the backside of the flips against the opposing page -the orig may entry- May_pg2_02 May_pg2_03 this page is the visual of the entry itself. naked. -lol.   and it's just a synergy of elements that fit. -May_pg2_07_2 this entry add-on is a visual token of closure and moving forward. the cool thing that i'm loving about this journal is the amazing things that i've experienced; good/bad already this year.. SO much. it's cool to have the visual of my insight- which only i know what a lot of it means -wink-  but that's the May_pg2_05 beauty and mystic of my art. May_pg2_01 but seriously, this journal is evolving. it's cool. it's personal. -it's real.

the boys' are great- busy. life is good>another great weekend, i actually played frisbee; first time in YEARS. and on the beach. lol- yep, here in missouri. we do have them..   the water isn't exactly blue, but a lake with a sanded beach -it works- .  -tks for another very good weekend -ac-.

have a fab week -slm

dimensional-transparent journal

well, it's monday. that's all i can say-  wasn't a very productive weekend for anything in the concept of ART (but it was a really good weekend otherwise *wink), i do have these images to show you of my recent instructional. Class_sample_001 this is a mini acetate journal. the concept behind this is to create dimension. go figure. laff-       it's a fun concept to work with. i kept this very simplistic. i battle with class samples because i tend to want to overkill on my collaging and layering, and it hides the 'concept' behind the project, completely throwing my girls off sometimes. i wanted to show that you can create a dimensional-transparent journal.    when closed and looking from the outside in, you can see the inside content in most of its entirety, but when you open it up, it's like you're peeling away the layers. make sense -? Class_sample_006 the springboard for this journal came from one that ali edwards created. when i saw the acetate journal of her son, the possibilities with this concept overwhelmed me in a big way- the class was awesome, and the end result of the girls' journals were fab to say the least. they really hit on the concept.  they just about jump at any instructional that i do because they love to bust out the spray paint! Class_sample_005 *the spine is made from 3 diff pattern paper designs and folded accordian style. the acetate pages were cut to size, then the spine and pages were put together, holes punched and bound with waxed string. the top is the 'starburst' concept that i talked about in my last journal post; the triangles were folded back and attached to the acetate with mini brads. the back page is secured with a piece of chipboard, and the edges of the acetate pages have excess pattern paper for a little more structure, and i added tabs. this really is a simplistic WOW with many possibilities.

have a good week! it's going to be a long week, but good weekend planned
