more journal stuff

so this is what i have been working on the past week.5! i changed up and TOOK an instructional for a chage. and let me tell you...   i loved it! one of my stores, Stamper's,Ink. in Shawnee,Ks. had the fab Beverly Seymour come do instructionals for the weekend. Bev did a book for Design Originals titled Walnut Ink, and has her own line of rubber stamps; BLine Rubber Stamps. I took this altered heart book class from her. it was a 4 hour class that ended up being 5, we had so much fun. I learned about this funky tool that punches holes in metals; coins. so of course, in mid-class i ran to harbor freight to purchase it! POSSIBILITIES -yep, endless! this journal, is about complete. i just have to do a few more things to the inside, however it's the first journal that i have actually started and completed. good feeling. i learned to do the coins and beading along the edging of the pages from Bev's instructional -it just adds to my passion of the "outside" visual of the journal. and, journals are theraputic. fact. The journal front is tight mesh wire, and the M was stamped with a combination of bleach and white acrylic.        *enjoy some of my fav pages. S

*some of this was inspired by Lynne Perrella's Altered Journal book, and the fab artists' who contributed.

GAME

Game1_copy_1 Game4_copy  Game5_copy Game6_copy Game8_copy Scrapbook all weekend! (i did maintain the laundry as well -not ALL fun!) however, I made this fab mini book from large playing cards. The book is of the boys' and Rich's spring turkey and fall deer hunts/05. On the cover, I added a tape transfer using my Captured Elements Hunting defined paper. I love the end result of using the tape transfer with the defined paper, and applying it over the top of an image. Love the dimensional effect. Two of my fav elements of this book is the WISHBONE from our Thanksgiving turkey that I wired onto the tape transfer inside the back page! A FREAK vision! Then I finally found a good use for some of the Canadian coins that I

Eth_deer_copy Bobby_deer_copy brought back from Vancouver TWO years ago! The coins have a different wildlife image on each one. I plan to add more pages to this..   which is why I love to use the silver binder rings. CONVENIENT!

*the smaller playing cards flip to expose a smaller photo. *the dupe photo on page across from the "wishbone" page was printed in sepia tone onto notebook paper. *the wooden letter beads and the coins were tied onto the edges using a blanket stitch and wax coated string.

self journal cover

This is the cover of an art journal i started. Someplace where I can work through some very difficult issues in my life right now -to find my way back to some sort of peace.

It's a montage of acrylics, alcohol inks, modeling paste...... etcetera.  that COLOR thing.

New Outlook

Sometimes we have to hit a concrete wall to wake up and change our ways of thinking. Perspectives, and ways of thinking. CHANGE. One of the things that I've always battled with as an artist, is working with color. I know, what kind of a confession is this ? ARTIST/COLOR. ? well, I have had issues with working with color. My very favorite color is RED. To me, RED symbolizes courage, love, strength, desire, romance. But, RED can be deep, not always a bold color. However, I've always been attracted to bright yellow.

Atc_cortona_italy_2 I've accepted an amazing opportunity to go to Cortona, Italy and do a week's worth of instructionals next year. (the line-up of past;future artists is amazing) I love-love the photographs that I see of bright colored doors and windows against warn; distressed concrete and rock buildings. Italy is a great place to capture these brilliant contrasts. So, back to my belief of 'everything happens for a reason', THIS IS MY MOTIVATION TO BE BRAVE. Explore bright COLORS. And I did. We are making this fab cigar box journal;(journal is binded into the bottom of the cigar box)and I painted the cigar box bright yellow. It's very plain right now because I want to embellish it in Cortona. Using the elements that I collect there. I've also used bright colors (acrylics, alcohol inks, dyes) on this technique tag book that we will be making on the first day. The ATC card is done with alcohol inks and beeswax;acrylics filling in words on the ATC. I'm hoping that pulling vivid colors into my work will come to me more naturally now. Be BOLD. Be BRAVE, and make a statement! ...right?   !!! we'll see. ;-)

*I will post the link when it's public.
